Water Pollution

I showed a picture of water pollution and read the book 'Water' by Brenda Williams to the kindergarten students. The book explained that unclean sewage is sometimes pumped along huge outlet pipes straight into the sea. This lead to a class discussion that was strong and earnest. Most students agreed that it was wrong to do this to our oceans. Students showed empathy toward ocean animals and fellow humans.

As a year long practice, students are encouraged to reflect on their feelings, ideas, thoughts and interests in their school diary. Students use this medium to show how they feel, and they were urged to express their views on water pollution in their diary. Most students, thus far, are unable to write their thoughts completely, so we write down exactly what they say in their own words. This is an excellent practice that can be done at school and at home. When students can see that we can express ourselves through words and written language, we are empowering them to use language in a way that is meaningful to them.

Caskets of jewels and coffers of gold.
Richer than I you can never be --
